Zodra je je zaden hebt, laat je ze 24 uur in water weken, laat je ze uitlekken en zaai je ze vervolgens in vochtig zand of nat vermiculiet, of doe je het zaad tussen vochtige koffiezakken.
Nadat je koffieboomzaden hebt ontkiemd, haal je ze uit het medium. Plaats het zaad met de platte kant naar beneden in een gat gemaakt in leemgrond met een hoog humusgehalte waaraan rotte mest, beendermeel of gedroogd bloed kan worden toegevoegd.
Je kunt ook een lichtgewicht, poreuze grond proberen. Druk de grond niet naar beneden. Plaats ½ inch (1 cm) gemulcht gras bovenop om vocht te behouden, maar verwijder het wanneer het zaad is ontkiemd. Geef de zaden dagelijks water, maar niet te veel, alleen vochtig.
Zodra uw zaden zijn ontkiemd, kan de plant in een poreuze, lage pH-grond met een hoog stikstofgehalte worden gelaten of getransplanteerd.
Orchideeënmest mag spaarzaam worden gebruikt op de koffieplant om de pH laag te houden en mineralen toe te voegen. Zet de plant binnen onder kunstlicht.
Een keer per week water geven en laten uitlekken, en doordeweeks opnieuw met kunstmest. Houd de grond vochtig en goed gedraineerd.
